One way that teachers can help students learn and retain vocabulary is
with puzzles and other games. The (free) software package Hot Potatoes has
various programs for creating games, quizzes, and crossword puzzles quickly and
easily. The package comes for both Mac and PC. There are novels, documentaries, movies, magazine stories and TV shows on a multitude of subjects. It is possible to improve one's academic vocabulary through popular media.
